I am Patricia Calabro, an MBACP Accredited integrative psychotherapist. I work in Wimbledon and online with individuals and couples.
I am deeply passionate about what I do. It is a privilege to sit with another human being and have them share their suffering, their joy, their anger, their confusion, their sorrow and their successes. I view the therapy room as a space where people can truly be themselves, without judgement or criticism. It is my work to know your story, to understand your perspective, and to stay alongside you with your best interests in mind.
I have experience working with individuals and couples in the NHS mental health sector as well as in private practice. I work with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties and periods of significant change. Therapy is an active process of looking inward and gaining clarity about who you are and what you want, and my approach is engaged rather than passive. Clients tell me they feel more grounded, more self-assured and more in control as a result of our work.
How I work
I am interested in why things are the way they are, not only in how to manage them.
Most of what people bring to therapy has a history. The way you handle closeness, or conflict, or disappointment was learned somewhere, usually early, usually at a time when it made complete sense. It carries on running long after the circumstances have changed, and from the inside it rarely looks like a pattern at all. It just looks like how things are. A good deal of the work is making that visible, because things that are visible can shift.
I also pay attention to what happens between the two of us. Over time, the way you are with me tends to carry something of how you are with other people. Rather than only hearing about your relationships, I get to notice one as it happens, which means we can work with it in the room rather than after the fact. For many people that is where something finally moves.
None of this follows a set programme. The direction comes from you, and what we do depends on what you bring. Some sessions are reflective. Others are practical and focused on something specific happening that week. Where it is useful, particularly with anxiety, I draw on cognitive behavioural techniques and mindfulness practice.
In the language of the profession: my work is primarily psychodynamic and relational, alongside a person-centred approach.
Getting in touch
If this sounds like the kind of work you are looking for, the next step is a free fifteen-minute conversation. There is no obligation and no pressure. It is a chance for you to ask questions and for both of us to get a sense of whether we would work well together.
If you have had therapy before and would rather not spend time on a preliminary call, you are very welcome to book a full session directly.
